McCook alum Kelsee Meissner qualifies for NAIA nationals in shot put

CRETE -- In the final tune up going into the conference championship meet, Doane College track athletes hit 16 automatic NAIA marks and 20 provisional marks at the Doane Valentine's Day Invite.

The Tigers were originally scheduled to go to Buena Vista but the snow storm that swept through on Friday prevented travel.

McCook High School alum Kelsee Meissner finished second with a toss of 42 feet, 8 inches in the shot put, hitting an automatic NAIA national qualifying mark.

Abby Schlueter was a double event winner, claiming the triple jump with an automatic mark of 37-04.00 and winning the long jump. Janelle Weber also hit an automatic mark in the triple jump with a leap of 37-01.75.

Ale Cano won the pole vault with an automatic mark of 11-03.00. Leah Petersen was second, also going 11-03.00. Katie Bartels won the high jump with a leap of 5-07.00, an automatic mark.

The Tiger relay teams hit provisional marks while winning the 4x400m and distance medley relays. Jallan Holmes won the 55m hurdles with an automatic mark of 8.52 seconds.

Viviana Arreola won the 5000m run with a provisional time. Deejay Silcott won the 200m dash with a provisional mark as well.

On the men's side, the weight throw proved to be the strongest of the events. Seven automatic marks were hit in all, three from Tiger athletes. Jared Schuurmans finished second with a throw of 58-07.50.

Jake Eckhardt placed fifth with a throw of 54-04.00 and Zane Pfefferle was seventh with a toss of 52-09.25.

Schuurmans won the shot put with a toss of 56-01.25. Nathan Green won the triple jump with a leap of 47-02.50; he has won each meet he has participated in this year.

Nathan Teten was second in the pole vault with a mark of 15-05.00, an automatic mark. Devon Johnson won the long jump with a provisional mark of 22-09.25. Joe Kasson won the high jump.

The Tiger distance medley relay team won with a time of 10:21.77, an automatic mark. The 4x400 came through with a win as well.

Ross Smithey won the 55m hurdles with a provisional mark of 7.87. Edwin Ronoh hit a provisional mark in the mile run with a time of 4:22.99. Sufian Kimo claimed the 1000m crown while Cody Ingold won the 600m run and Vince Martinez won the 400m dash. Adam Bosley won the 200m dash.

D'Artagnan Dai'Re won the 55m dash with an automatic time of 6.39 seconds. Adam Bosley placed second with an automatic time of 6.46 seconds.

Doane will travel up the road to Lincoln for the GPAC Championships Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
