Update: Missing woman found

Monday, February 9, 2009

Law enforcement officials and emergency responders searched country roads, field roads and cattle trails throughout the evening and night Sunday looking for a rural McCook woman who was found this morning apparently unharmed.

Law enforcement officials declined to release the woman's name.

The search for the woman was led by the Red Willow County Sheriff's Department, with assistance from the McCook Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Frontier County Sheriff's Department. Also providing manpower Sunday evening and night for a sweep through the area were the Indianola, Bartley and Red Willow Western Rural fire departments.

The search was called off about 12:30 a.m. today, but resumed again with morning light. An airplane from Red Willow Aviation searched throughout the morning; the Nebraska State Patrol's airplane with infrared capabilities was on standby.

Sheriff Gene Mahon expressed appreciation to all of the agencies and individuals who participated in the search.
