Rich Glover speech moved

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Because of increased interest in the Rich Glover appearance Monday at McCook Community College, officials have moved the former Nebraska football star's appearance to True Hall.

Glover will be the convocation speaker as MCC celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19. He will speak at MCC from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at True Hall. Prior to his scheduled appearance on campus Glover plans to "meet and greet" his fans at noon at Sehnert's Bakery in McCook.

Glover, who was inducted into the National Football Foundation's College Football Hall of Fame in 1995, is expected to speak about what Dr. King's legacy has meant to him and how it has influenced him throughout his life, both while in college and in his life after college.

The 6-1, 234-pound middle guard played for the Huskers from 1970-72, which included two national championships and a 34-1-2 record. Glover won both the Outland and Lombardi awards in 1972, given annually to the nation's outstanding lineman. He was named All-American in 1971-72 -- a unanimous choice the second time and spent two seasons in the National Football League, playing for the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles before an injury ended his career.

His resume includes coaching football in division one colleges and a long career teaching children in the public school system.
