Bison freshman girls lose by one point

The McCook High School freshman girls basketball team dropped a close game to Lexington 17-16 Thursday at the MHS gymnasium.

The game opened with three straight buckets for Lexington and McCook was behind 11-6 at half. In the third quarter, McCook held Lexington scoreless and pulled to within 2 points.

Down the stretch, McCook and Lexington went back and forth with the lead changing several times and the game not decided till the final buzzer.

McCook was led in scoring by Sierra Ortiz with 6 points. Rachel Bradley followed with 5 and Emily Tolliver added 4. Bradley grabbed 8 rebounds. Alex Witt and KathrAnn Sides each added 3.

"The girls played really hard all game, and I was very proud of our effort tonight," said McCook freshman girls coach Jon Graff.

"Both offensively and defensively the girls made great strides over our last game. We didn't score a ton of points, but the girls got good looks at the basket and took good shots."
