ATWOOD -- Clara Janice "Grandma Sperry" (Nickel) Blalack, 68, died Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2008) at Cheyenne County Hospital in St. Francis.

She was born Aug. 20, 1940, to Ralph and Clara Jane (Hays) Masters in Scott County, Kan. Her mother, Clara died when she was 2-years-old. She graduated from Scott Community High School in 1959.

She was an instructor for the Liberal Beauty School, activities director at Atwood Good Samaritan Center and worked at Rawlins County Health Center.

She was a member of the First Christian Church board and the Business and Professional Women's Club, where she was state president from 1989-90.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include her children, Danice Elaine Sperry of Ludell, Kan., Charles Quenting of Topeka, Kan., Tracy Jo Cousins of Grove, Okla., and Amanda Ann of Burlington, Colo.; sisters, Thelma Nickel of Atwood and Illene Russell of Satana, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ at Atwood with the Rev. Chris Edwards officiating. Inurnment will be private.

There is no visitation.

Memorials may be given to First Christian Church youth group.
