Digital TV workshop set for Senior Center

Thursday, July 10, 2008

What is DTV? What is a DTV converter box? Who's affected? A representative from NET Television will be coming to out area to discuss the transition from analog to digital television for viewers in our NET transmitter area.

All television stations are required by federal law to stop broadcasting in analog as of Feb. 17, 2009. Most, including NET Television, are already broadcasting in digital and will simply turn off the analog signal on that date; however, with nine transmitters and numerous translators throughout the state, NET Television faces a much more complicated task. In order to meet the February 2009 deadline, NET Television needs to begin work on its towers and transmitters around Nebraska in September of this year. This change doesn't affect people who receive their television through a paid service like cable or satellite. Viewers who receive NET Television over-the-air through an antenna or rabbit ears on analog channel 9 in the KPNE/North Platte area are going to be affected beginning Oct. 7.

A workshop for the KPNE/North Platte transmitter area, along with a question and answer session, will take place on Thursday, July 17 from 6-7 p.m. at the Heritage Senior Center in McCook. For more information, contact Brian Reetz at (402) 472-9333 ext. 297 or breetz2@unl.edu.
