Bison girls tennis dominates Scottsbluff Invite

SCOTTSBLUFF -- The McCook Bison girls tennis team dominated the Scottsbluiff Invite Saturday.

The Bison swept Nos. 1 and 2 singles and No. 1 doubles and placing second at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

McCook scored 58 points, easily outdistancing Scottsbluff and Ogallala.

Alliance placed fourth.

Brianna Watkins captured No. 1 singles, Hanah Swanhorst won No. 2 singles.

Melissa Lyster and Amy Lester won No. 1 doubles.

"Brianna had some very tight matches throughout the day," said McCook coach Matt Wiemers. "She did a great job of finding a way to finish off her matches and come out on the winning end of things.

"She has had a solid week, going 10-3 and picking up some solid wins.

"Next week will continue to provide a tough week of competition."

"Melissa and Amy earned their second straight invite medals and cruised to a 5-0 first-place finish," Wiemers said. "The girls picked up five wins on the day and finish the week going 12-1.

"They are playing some excellent tennis and are having an awesome season. This next week will provide some stiff competition as we will see Kearney Catholic and Kearney High on Tuesday."

"Hanah really dominated the field as she picked up five wins en route to a first-place finish," Wiemers said.

"She has had a good week of play, going 10-3 over the stretch. It was nice to see her raise her level of play this week, as next week will present some tough matches all on the road."

"Amy and Cody earned four wins and finished the tournament with second place medals," Wiemers said. "The lone loss to Alliance was a tough one, as Alliance switched their Nos. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams around.

"For the week the girls went 11-2 and earned second-lace medals at both the Lexington and Scottsbluff Invites. They are doing great and having a good year, but will see some solid doubles teams this week."

"Audrie and Renetta had a successful day, going 4-1 and earning second-place medals," Wiemers said. "A nice thing about the Scottsbluff Invite is they allow for one extra doubles position.

"They have done well this season and play well together in doubles. They have both worked hard this year, so it was nice to see them have a successful day."
