Driver killed in truck collision

ARAPAHOE -- A collision between two trucks at an intersection north of Arapahoe Wednesday afternoon killed one Arapahoe man.

Furnas County Attorney Tom Patterson indicated in a press release this morning that Ron Oliva, 60 years old, of Arapahoe, died at the scene of the accident, which happened at 1:44 p.m., at the intersection of Nebraska Highway 283 and Furnas County Road 724.

Patterson said that the commercial dump truck that Oliva was driving eastbound failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a southbound semi-tractor trailer rig driven by Frank Leising, also of Arapahoe.

Patterson said that Leising declined medical attention.

Each man was alone in his truck.

Fire and rescue crews from the Holbrook-Edison-Arapahoe Department and officers from the Furnas County Sheriff's Department and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the accident. A crew from the Oxford Fire Department assisted with the accident cleanup, Patterson said.
