Bison swim teams place 7th at GNAC

HASTINGS -- The McCook High School girls and boys swim teams both placed seventh at the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference Friday and Saturday at Hastings.

The Bison girls tallied 88 points and the McCook boys picked up 55.

Scottsbluff swept the GNAC team titles. The Bearcat girls scored 344.5 points and the boys 336.

McCook High School sophomore Whitney Korgan finished third in the girls 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.91 seconds, an automatic qualifying time for the Nebraska State High School Swimming Championships Feb. 21-23 at Lincoln.

Korgan also swam the third leg on the Bison girls 200-yard medley relay team that placed fourth with a secondary state qualifying time of 2 minutes, 9.07 seconds.

Three other sophomores are on the relay team -- Madeline Shaddock, Katie Latta and Jayde Aufrecht.

McCook's Kim Ellicott placed fifth in the girls 1-meter diving with 247.25 points.

The foursome also placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:50.47 and sixth in the 400 free relay with a secondary state qualifying time of 4:12.57.

Aufrecht was eighth in the 50 free with a secondary state qualifying time of 27.98 seconds.

In boys 1-meter diving, McCook senior Matt Hall finished first with 420.45 points. He defeated Norfolk junior Travis Reeves, who scored 393.73 points. McCook's Kyle Craw was fourth with 247.90.
