McCook Bison boys tennis team falls to North Platte

The McCook High School varsity boys tennis team finished the regular season Thursday with a dual loss to North Platte.

The match was played at the Bison Tennis Courts.

North Platte won three of the varsity matches.

The lone win for McCook came at No. 1 doubles, where Austin Larson and Asher Brooks won a tightly contested three set match 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

McCook wrapped up the regular season with a 7-6 dual record.

"We knew going into today's dual that North Platte would be a tough challenge," said McCook tennis coach Matt Wiemers. "They have a solid team and they got the better of us.I was pleased to see Asher and Austin pull out a victory.

"They have had a great season, going 23-12. It will be interesting to see what happens at state. They have the opportunity to go to Lincoln and win some matches.

"And there is still a chance that they could earn a seed as well. Whatever happens seeded or not, I feel confident that they will be successful and play deep into the tournament."

The McCook junior varsity team played its final competition of the season and won six of the 10 matches played against North Platte.

"I have been impressed with the development of the team as a whole," Wiemers said. "They have worked hard and their play the past couple of weeks has shown that. We will have some players next year who will contribute at the varsity level.

"I'm optimistic about the team next year. With the experience and development our junior varsity has gotten this season, we should be in pretty good shape to fill in some holes left open."

The Class B state tournament is next Thursday and Friday at the Nebraska Tennis Center in Lincoln.
