Southern Valley girls, Elwood boys claim Arapahoe meet team titles

Ann Fornoff/Hayes Center Hayes Center's Luke Clifford makes his handoff to anchorman Brian Christner in the last exchange of the 4 x 100 meter relay at the Hayes Center Invitational in McCook, Wednesday. In the heat of the competition behind Hayes Center are exchanges between Hitchcock County, Maywood and Southwest runners.

ARAPAHOE -- Arapahoe's girls and boys track teams hosted the Jim Mather invitational Wednesday.

Southern Valley girls took first in the meet with Loomis following in second and Cambridge in fourth.

Wilcox-Hildreth ended the day in fourth and Eustis-Farnam and Bertrand tied for fifth.

Elm Creek took seventh, Alma was eighth, Elwood was ninth and Arapahoe took tenth.

Elwood won on the boys side. Loomis took second, Elm Creek was third and Cambridge took fourth.

Bertrand finished fifth, Arapahoe took sixth and Southern Valley was seventh. Wilcox-Hildreth took eighth, Eustis-Farnam was ninth and Alma took tenth place.

Amy Bowers led the Southern Valley girls with a win in the 800. The Eagles also won the 4x100 relay

Katie Fagot and Jacey Schultheiss took home first place medals for Eustis-Farnam. Fagot won the 1600 in 5:54 earning her first individual first place medal. Schultheiss took the high jump with a season best of 5 foot 3 inches. The Knights also won the 4x800 relay.

Cambridge had two first place wins by Shelby Schultz and Bailey Soucie. Soucie took the shot put and Schultz won the discus. The Trojans also won the 4x400 relay.

Drew Cramer and Lance Shifflet led the Cambridge boys. Cramer won the 800 and Shifflet had 100. Cambridge also won the 4x100 and took second in the 4x800.
