Friday, January 5, 2007

GOTHENBURG -- The McCook High School junior varsity wrestling team was back on the mat for the first time since before the holiday break.

Ten wrestlers competed with three individuals taking home the championship medal.

"All of the competitors gained some good experience and wrestled hard in every match," said McCook coach Nick Umscheid.

"Hank Lichtenwaldt and Kendall Foster are both first year wrestlers and it was exciting to see both of them capture their first tournament championship.

"Both of these young men work hard in the practice room and push other guys they are working with everyday. It's nice to see that their hard work is paying off.

"Nick Kenny also won his bracket and looked really solid on the day. This is Nick's second year of wrestling and he has really come a long way.

"He is a smart wrestler who never gives up and really making some good improvements in his technique and mat awareness."
