Wauneta-Palisade teams roll

WAUNETA -- Wauneta-Palisade showed Hayes Center what the top-ranked boys basketball team in Nebraska Class D-1 looked like Saturday night beating the Cardinals 96-45.

Russell Ridlen lit up the board with a game-high 31 points.

Marc Klima added 21, Andrew Isom 15 and Taylor Dixon 11.

Brian Christner led the Cardinals with 12 points, Levi Tyan scored 10.

"I am very pleased with the way we competed tonight," said Hayes Center coach Louis Cuellar.

"We knew that Wauneta-Palisade was a good team with a lot of experience and they definitely showed it tonight. We competed all game but just made too many mistakes that Wauneta-Palisade converted to points.

"Wauneta-Palisade showed why they are the No. 1 team in Class D1 tonight. We will rebound and grow from this game and be ready for Tuesday's game."

Wauneta-Palisade will play in the Cambridge tournament tonight.

Hayes Center will host Maxwell Tuesday.

WAUNETA -- The Wauneta-Palisade girls posted a 45-37 victory over Hayes Center Saturday night.

"If the girls would come out and play the whole game the way they played the second half, a lot of our game would turn out to our favor," said Hayes Center coach Krystal Sauser.

"The girls showed good hustle and were able to out score Wauneta in the second half. We need to work on coming out and playing hard all four quarters of the game."

Gina Geier led the Broncos with 19 points.

Rebecca Gigax socred 12 for the Cardinals.

IMPERIAL -- Southwest girls outscored Chase County 61-46 Saturday.

"We played our best game of the year," said Southwest coach Dennis Troester.

Chelsey Quigley led the Roughriders with 20 points, Lisa Lord added 17 points and snagged 9 rebounds. Megan Dolan scored 14.

RyAnn Spady put 20 points on the board and Celeste Pankonin had 11.

Southwest will play in the Perkins County Tournament Dec. 29-30.

Chase County will go to the Minden Tournament Dec. 28-29.

Hitchcock County's Austin Renfro led all scores with 12 points.

Ben Wolfe scored 9 for Medicine Valley.

Hitchcock County will compete in the Cambridge Tournament tonight and Tuesday.

Medicine Valley travels to Wallace Tuesday.
