McCook's Josh Cherry, Jeff Gross selected for All-American Bowl

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The 2007 High School All-American Bowl Game Classic will be played on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at 4 p.m. in the Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La.

It will be televised nationally on FOX Sports.

McCook will be represented by blue chip All-American kicker Josh Cherry. Cherry, one of the nation premier kickers, will handle kickoff and place-kicking duties for the West Squad.

The Kansas State Wildcat recruit was a two-time Super State Player in Nebraska. Cherry is the first ever player from the state of Nebraska to be honored to play in this national All-American Bowl.

Cherry is one of 50 players in this all star game that have already committed to play Division I football next year.

Joining Cherry will be McCook High School football coach Jeff Gross. Gross will serve as the specials Teams coordinator for the West All American Team.

Gross, the 2004 Nebraska Male coach of Year and 2003 Nebraska Football coach of the year, was picked from a nationwide coaching pool.

He has been at the helm of the McCook football program for 9 years with a record of 85-19. His teams won back to back state titles and were back to backs state runner-ups.

They just completed their 5th consecutive undefeated regular season.

All coaches report to Shreveport, La., on Friday, Dec. 29, and the players report on Saturday, Dec. 30.

The week activities include: daily practice at the Independence Bowl and an All American Olympics for players.

All-American Bowl Game All-American Players will visit a Shreveport Hospital for Children. Each player will present a child with a gold medallion signifying the playing of the Third Annual All-American Bowl Game Classic.

A portion of the gate receipts will be given to the Katrina Children of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

There will be a banquet for player's coaches and families where bowl game rings will be presented to all participants and a concert by country artists Cook and Glenn.
