Vesper Norine Ross

CULBERTSON -- Vesper Norine Ross, 96, died Monday (Aug. 14, 2006) at El Dorado Manor in Trenton.

She was born Feb. 23, 1910, in Red Cloud, to Chester Otis and Esther Arada (Rakestraw) Roberts. The family moved to Culbertson. She grew up in the Culbertson area and attended District 62 and District 2. She graduated from Culbertson High School in 1927.

On Dec. 2, 1929, she married Daniel Floyd Ross. They made their home next to her parents and spent the next 30 years farming.

In 1959, they retired from farming and moved north of Culbertson, until 2005, when she moved to El Dorado Manor of Trenton.

She was a member of the Culbertson United Methodist Church and several clubs.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Daniel; an infant daughter; and son Paul "Butch" Ross.

Survivors include her son, Robert and wife, Mary Lou of Culbertson; a daughter, Virginia Zobel and husband, Walter of Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Joylyn Ross of Culbertson; two sisters, Gladys Godtel and husband, Harry of McCook and Norma Hill and husband, Don of Loveland, Colo.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

A private family inurnment will be Saturday at the Culbertson Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Melano officiating.
