McCook Bison football games will be on two radio stations

Tuesday, August 8, 2006
John J. Mesh/McCook Daily Gazette The McCook High School football team, coached by Jeff Gross, will be broadcast by both KICX and US 93.9-FM this season.

The McCook High School football program, which has won 50 of its last 52 games and 58 of its last 63 including a pair of state titles and two runnerup finishes, will be double teamed by local radio stations.

Two McCook radio stations will be broadcast the games on the air and over the internet this season.

Both KICX (96.1-FM) and KSWN (also known as US 93.9) will feature Bison broadcasts, starting with McCook's first game Sept. 1 at Scottsbluff.

"No matter how you cut it, we are still the home of Bison sports," said Rich Barnett, sports director of KICX 96.1-FM, a McCook Radio Group station.

"Mitch Lyster and I will be broadcasting the games again. We will have one-hour pregame prior to every game."

KICX can be found on the internet at http://www.kicx.net.

Bison games will be streamed at http://bisonsports.kicx.net.

Derek Beck, music director/imaging/play-by-play personality of Hometown Family Radio, said the Bison games are a great addition to the group's coverage of southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas schools and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

"US 93.9 is also going to be airing Bison sports in addition to the coverage KICX has already doing," Beck said. "The two stations are not affiliated."

Beck said Steve Stein will be doing the play-by-play for the McCook games.

The color commentator is Bruce Lester of McCook.

Lester is presently the senior pastor at the McCook Evangelical Free Church in McCook.

Lester is a former Kansas State Wildcat and played football for K-State while in college. Stein has been at Hometown Family Radio for seven years and last year was awarded the Media Person of the Year from the Nebraska Coaches Association.

"With the addition of the Bison to US 93.9's programming, the station really is southwest Nebraska's Big Red Radio Station, already the official station for University of Nebraska Athletics in the area," Beck said.

US 93.9's sister station, KIOD (Coyote Country 105.3 FM), will again be covering regional games from across southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas.

Beck will be anchoring the regional play-by-play coverage on Coyote Country 105.3 along with Mark Searcey of 1st Central Bank, who will provide commentary.

US 93.9 will again be hosting a High School Scoreboard Show following Bison Football games with scores and analysis from all over the state.

Fans are encouraged to call in there scores from games they're attending, and be involved in the show," Beck said.

In addition to Bison football games, volleyball matches and softball games will also be featured.

Hometown Family Radio will also be adding a third station this fall at 102.5 FM. The format has not been decided.

Hometown Family Radio sports events will be streamed on the internet at www.coyote105.com.
