Alma golfers clip Trojans for Cambridge invite title

field with 73

CAMBRIDGE -- The Alma Cardinals clipped the host Cambridge Trojans by one stroke to capture the team title at the Cambridge Invitational golf tournament Wednesday at the Cross Creek course.

Alma posted a 346 score, followed by Cambridge 347, Medicine Valley-Maywood 370, Southern Valley 381, Overton 383, Arapahoe 391, Elwood 400, Hitchcock County 417, Southwest 435, Bertrand 445, Dundy County 448, Wauneta-Palisade 452 and Loomis 479.

Cambridge senior Waid Vontz captured first-place individual medalist honors with a 73 despite the windy conditions.

Vontz' score was eight strokes better than second-place medalist Jake Ring of Alma, who fired an 81.

The top 15 golfers medaled.

MVM's Zach Robinson was third with an 83, followed by Chris Tripe, Alma, 85; Sebastian Edwards, Arapahoe, 87; Derek Larimer, Dundy County, 88; Jordan Wilcox, MVM, 89; Tom Marshall, Overton, 89; Josh Murdoch, Southern Valley, 89; Alex Ring, Alma, 89; Bo Cribelli, Cambridge, 91; Jackson Johnson, Cambridge, 91; Dillon Kauk, Alma, 91; Adam Wright, Hitchcock County, 91; and Wes Spady, Alma, 91.

Cambridge's Anthony Hopkins just missed medaling with a 92. Brian Ballou fired a 98.

MVM's Brennan Hammond fired a 93, Jeff Gleisberg 105 and Wyatt Clark 108.

Murdoch's 89 for Southern Valley was followed by Dylan Knuth with a 95, Dusty Knuth 96, Matt Schoen 101 and Jeff Sladky 120.

Edwards' 87 for Arapahoe was followed by Kyle O'Brien and John Stoye, who shot 100s. Brittany Fanning shot 104 and Brian Downey 105.

Wright's 91 for Hitchcock County was followed by teammates Justin Heffner 105, Ryne Thompson 108, Aaron Leggott 113 and Orrin Riggs 115.

Southwest was paced by Kyle Teel with a 105. He was followed by Brett Longnecker 107, Tyler Hayes 109, Adam Crocker 114 and Anthony Marquardt 166.

Larimer's 88 for Dundy County was followed by Justin Hardwick with a 107, Ryan Sargent 123 and Kyle Thomas 130.

Waneta-Palisade was led by Michael Gardener with a 101. Marc Klima shot a 104, Trevor Ridlen 116, Russell Ridlen 131 and Brittany O'Neil 147.
