OBERLIN -- Irene Ayers, 99, died Friday (March 3, 2006) at the Decatur County Hospital.

She was born Sept. 22, 1906, in Decatur County to Henry E. Counter and Letticia Ann Montgomery. She graduated from Decatur County High School in 1925.

She married Lowell Ayers on Dec. 21, 1934, in Oberlin. They spent most of their lives on a farm in Lund. They moved to Oberlin in 1978.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Lund Covenant Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Letticia Counter; husband, Lowell Ayers in 1995; seven brothers, Edward, William, Fred, Theo, Harry, Tom and Perry Counter; and a sister, Jene "Jenny" Peterson.

Survivors include son, Larry and wife, Becky Ayers of Oberlin; daughter, Linda Schwab of Fort Lupton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Mason officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, 8 a.m.

Memorials are being accepted in her name at the Lund Covenant Church or Decatur County 4-H.
