Racism still abounds in America

One of my criminal justice majors came in the office the other day to interview me for a speech he was giving about racism. His first question was, "What can we do to stop racism in Southwest Nebraska?" and I immediately longed for the day when I was 18 again. When you're young and idealistic, regardless of the time frame, you believe there is no problem that exists that can't be solved. Hunter S. Thompson, the author, once wrote that he was a child of the '60s and it was such an exciting time to live because we lived in a world of "possibilities" rather than limitations. Un-fortunately, there's a process that unfolds on our way from young to old that dampens, stifles, and eventually smothers the "possibilities" that once existed in so many of our hearts.
