Area basketball roundup: Bison boys, girls teams taking part in GNAC tourney at GI

GRAND ISLAND -- McCook's boys and girls basketball teams will travel to the Greater Nebraska Activities Conference in Grand Island Dec. 28.

The Bison boys are the No. 8 seed and play No. 1 seed Kearney at 5:15 p.m.

Winners from this round will play either No. 5 Columbus or No. 4 Hastings.

The Bison are ranked No. 6 and take on No. 3 seed Norfolk at 12 p.m.

Winners of that match will play the winner of No. 7 Lexington and No. 2 Kearney.

The Holiday basketball tournament runs through Friday, Dec. 30.

Oberlin hosting

OBERLIN -- Decatur Community (Oberlin) freshman will play in the 2005 Joe Green Basketball Tournament Dec. 29-31.

Oberlin starts the tournament on Thursday against Plainville.

SUTHERLAND -- Hayes Center's girls fell short to Sutherland Tuesday, 46-30.

"For having 3 of the 5 starters injured the girls didn't do to bad of a job," said Coach Krystal Sauser. "Some of the girls stepped off the bench and helped out where it was needed."

Terra Bishop was the leading scorer for the Cardinals with 18 points and had 7 rebounds.

Randi Steele followed with 9 points. Jaimie Lapp had 3 points. Steele had 6 rebounds and Gigax had 5.

Jessica Jorgensen led the Raiders with 19 points.

Whitsa led Wallace with 6 points. Hubbard, Smith and Wickizer each had 5 points.

OGALLALA -- The McCook Junior High School eighth grade girls basketball A, B and C teams finished the season against Ogallala Tuesday.

The A team edged out Ogallala A 32-29. The C team rolled over Ogallala C 22-2. The B team fell short to Ogallala B 23-15.

"The girls competed well all season and continually showed improvement," said coach Steve Clapp.

Morgan Chitwood led the A team with 9 points. Adrian Lambing followed with 8 points. Whitney Korgan had 6 points.

Lisa Harerman had 10 points for the Ogallala team. Sydney Schroer followed with 7 points. Beth Stevenson had 6 points.

Madeline Shaddock led the Bison B team with 6 points. Danielle Barenberg had 4 points.

Alyssa Smith had 3 points and Alyssa Mohr had 2 points.

Nicolette Abberdandelo totaled 8 points for Ogallala.

Alyssa Mohr had 8 points for the Bison C team.

Shannoa Blake, Sara Meyer and Jennifer totaled 4 points. Jennifer Dotson had 2 points.

The St. Pats A team won 38-22 and the B team won 22-3.

Wyatt Kain led the St. Pats A team with 12 points. Alex Broadfoot followed with 11 points. Luke Mabile had 8 points.

Zach Ronge led Hitchcock County with 14 points. Schyler Parde had 3 points. Jesse Sensing and Patrick Lorens each had 2 points.

Kyle Gaston, Alan Goodenberger and Alex Broadfoot led the St. Patrick's B team with 6 points each. Luke Mabile had 4 points.

Anthony Burns totaled 2 points for Trenton and Christian Sullivan had 1 point.
