Arapahoe, Hayes Center set to square off in McCook Cattle Trail Invitational finale

Arapahoe's boys basketball team rolled over Dundy County in the Cattle Trail semifinals Friday 76-36 at the McCook High School gymnasium.

The Warriors will take on Hayes Center for the Championship Saturday. Dundy County will play Hitchcock County for third place.

Blake Maaske was the leading scorer for the Warriors with 32 points.

Ryan Stagemeyer and Tony Braithwait followed with 9 each.

Philip Matthews led the Tigers with 8 points. Kyle Glidden tallied 6 points and Paul Castillo had 5 points.

Hayes Center's boys edged out Hitchcock County 39-37 in Cattle Trail semi-finals in McCook, Friday.

Hayes Center heads into the championship which begins Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Cardinals will take on Arapahoe.

Levi Tyan led the scoring for the Cardinals with 12 points. Ben Maucher totaled 10 points and Jerry Deaver followed with 9 points.

John Thompson tallied 13 points for the Falcons. Chancy Carlson and Josh Kershaw also led in scoring. "This was a tough loss," said Coach Mike Tines. "We need to refocus and have a good game tomorrow."

Hitchcock County will play for third place Saturday against Dundy County.

Landon Ruggles and Brandon Malleck were top scorers for the Roughriders each with 13 points. Nick O'Dea followed with 12 points.

Ryan Hazen led the Tigers with 8 points. Trent Whitman totaled 7 points and Tony Steinhour had 6.

Southwest will meet Arapahoe for the championship title Saturday.

Hayes Center downed Maywood 51-27 in the girls side of the Cattle Trail Tournament here Friday.

"The girls came out and played a very agessive game," Hayes Center coach Krystal Sauser said.

"We were able to get the kinks out of press and were able to use it effectively tonght and get some key stops."

Terra Bishop lit up the boards with 13 points to lead the winning Cardinals in scoring.

Jamie Lapp added 11 points, followed by Randi Steele with 10 points.

Leading scorer for the Maywood Tigers was Stacie Koester with 11 points.
