McCook, area cross country runners compete at Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN -- Decatur Community High School hosted their 38th Annual Cross Country Meet Tuesday.

Oberlin placed fifth and sixth in the girls and boys divisions. McCook's girls placed seventh and the boys eighth.

The Cambridge boys placed seventh and Southwest girls eighth.

McCook's top boys runner was Jacob Eckhardt, who placed 42nd with a time of 20:37.

In the girls' race, McCook's Rebecca and Renetta Rawlings placed 19th and 24th with times of 14:04 and 14:18.

"Oberlin was not our best meet of the year, but I didn't expect it to be," said McCook coach Tom Sughroue.

"The boys finished 8th and the girls 7th in team scoring. The Oberlin meet scores five runners with us being use to scoring four makes a large difference in how well you do as a team."

The Oberlin girls took home three medals.

Becky Helm took the ninth place medal, Whitney Beinke was 10th and Lora Marietta 15th.

Oberlin coach Dick Alberg said "the girls had their best race of the year to date."
