Luau on the Plains

Indianola had a prairie luau during its 103rd annual "Old Settlers Days" parade Saturday. The Hawaiian-theme float decorated by Indianola Christian Church, right, won first place in the church and civic organization division. Bob Brown's pickup did not win in the antique motor vehicle division, as four friends pushed it through half of the parade after it stalled on Main Street. Friends, top from left, Emily Wright of Lincoln and Tayler Blume and Anna Graff of McCook modeled their leis and flowered headbands. Parade winners were: Church/civic: 1. Indianola Christian Church; 2. Knights of Columbus. Commercial: 1. Lord's of Indianola; 2. Shirley K's; 3. Sno Place. Antique farm equipment: 1. Devon Crawford; 2. Mason Nelms; 3. Gordon Gessleman. Antique motor vehicle: 1. Tom Beede; 2. Martin Auto Salvage; 3. Del Harsh. Horse/rider: 1. Shelby Hubbert and Shelby Lytle; 2. Southwest Nebraska rodeo queen royalty. Family: 1.
