It's time for a change

I was in a rut. I was in love with someone who couldn't or wouldn't live up to the promises she had made me and it had put my whole life on hold. I was doing nothing but treading water, living life in a holding pattern, hoping beyond hope that some miracle would occur that would allow her and I to pick up where we left off and get on with all our hopes, plans, and dreams. One of the toughest things for any of us to deal with is the absolute lack of control we have over what other people do, feel, and think. This is especially true for those people who are accustomed to having things go their way. We may be able to control the behavior of others through the exercise of rewards, punishments, threats, power and the like but one of the great lessons of life is discovering that we can never control another person's thoughts and emotions. Prisons, treatment centers, psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors and ordinary individuals discover this every single day. Someone may have the power or the authority to control what you do, but no one has the ability to control what you think and what you feel.
