CHADRON -- The McCook High School wrestling team qualified three grapplers for the Nebraska State Championships Thursday through Saturday at Lincoln.

The Bison team placed 11th at the Class B-4 district tournament this weekend at Chadron.

Jon McCart won the district title at 103 pounds, Dallas Korus was second at 130 pounds and Sam Frazier was fourth at 171 pounds.

This is Korus' fourth trip to state. He joins Stuart Frazier as the only four-time state qualifiers in McCook history.

"I was very pleased with the effort that our entire team showed at the district tournament," said McCook wrestling coach Nick Umscheid.

"Many of our wrestlers who did not place gave it their all and showed lots of heart competing against some of the best competition in class B.

"For the three guys who qualified they did excellent. Jon McCart had probably one of the toughest weight classes in the tournament and to come out district champ is a great accomplishment.

"He is looking very good out on the mat right now and has a good chance of being on the medal stand next Saturday in Lincoln.

"Dallas Korus also had a good showing at districts losing a close match in the finals. Dallas also has the potential of being a force to reckon with down at state.

"Sam Frazier, a freshman, also qualified for the state tournament. He is the only freshman to qualify for state in his weight class.

"Sam really stepped up his level of wrestling this weekend beating a very good wrestler from Valentine to qualify for the state tournament.

"Sam had a losing record going into state but he didn't let that bother him, he knew that he had a chance and took advantage of the situation.

"All three of these wrestlers will represent their school, and community well down at state."

The state wrestling finals will be on Saturday televised on NETV.

"It should be really exciting and fun to watch these young men compete at 'The Show' in Lincoln," Umscheid said.
