PAXTON -- Hubert Bernard Kildare, 85, of Paxton, died Saturday (Nov. 20, 2004) at Centennial Park Retirement Village of North Platte.

He was born Nov. 17, 1919, to Hubert L. and Christine (Meyer) Kildare in Paxton. He attended Paxton school and graduated from Regis College with honors. He later received a degree from Harvard University.

He worked in California as an industrial engineer in the aircraft industry and in 1945 he returned to Paxton where he joined his father in the conduct of the family lumber business. Today, Kildare Lumber has six locations in the area including McCook.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Paxton and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the boards of the Village Council, School District, American Red Cross, Keith County Building Committee, Paxton Volunteer Fire Department, Paxton Lions Club, Planning Commission and he participated in numerous other local and civic activities. He was also on the board of directors for the Paxton Consolidated Schools Foundation and one of it's founding members. As a member of the Mid America Lumbermens Association, he was named Outstanding Nebraska Lumberman of the Year in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Kildare; and two sisters, Huberta Pribyl and Veronica Thalken.

Survivors include two sisters, Christine and husband, Leonard Pelster of North Platte and Dorothy and husband, Richard Stark of North Platte.

Mass of Christian burial is Wednesday , 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Schlaf officiating. Interment will be in Paxton Cemetery.

The rosary will be recited today, 7 p.m., at the church.

Visitation is until 5 p.m., today, at the Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala and prior to the rosary and mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Paxton Consolidate Schools Foundation.
