IMPERIAL -- Bill DeWayne "Billy" Baker, 70, died Monday (Aug. 23, 2004) at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.

He was born Jan. 30, 1934, to Clyde and Pearl Baker in Ragen. He later moved to Hamlet where he attended school. The family moved to rural Hamlet and he started to attend country school. He continued his education in Palisade.

On July 14, 1954, he married Gloria Jean Singley in Champion. The couple made their home north of Benkelman before moving to Kansas, Colorado and back to Wauneta in 1964. He was employed as a truck driver for Frenchman Valley Coop and other firms in the area.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Ben Myers; his wife, Gloria; brother, Wesley Myers; two sisters-in-law, Linda Myers and Mary Singley; and a grandson, Danny Jo Jussle.

Survivors include his mother, Pearl Myers of Imperial; two daughters, Laura Lee Carfield of Haigler and Teresa Taylor and husband, Alan of Venango; two sons, William Baker and wife, Vicki of Wauneta and Randy Baker and wife, Karen of Wauneta; sisters, Betty Weston and husband, Mark of Henry and Alvina Breese and husband, Dallis of Wauneta; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services are Friday, 10 a.m. (MST), at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta with the Rev. Judy Dye officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.

Visitation is Thursday, 2-6 p.m. (MST), at Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta.
