ATWOOD -- Ronald D. Stark, 57, of Atwood, died Saturday (July 17, 2004) at Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood.

He was born Dec. 7, 1946, to Anthony "Tony" Stark and Della Irene Brown Ess Stark. He spent his childhood on a farm near Massacre Canyon east of Trenton. His family moved to town in 1959. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1966.

After graduation he enlisted in the Army. He served his country from 1966 to 1972.

On March 22, 1 969, he married Ardis Jannette Hawkins in Denver, Colo.

He was a member of the the Disabled American Veterans and of the DAV Commanders Club.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Luella Stark; his parents, Tony and Irene Stark; brother, Earl Ess; sisters-in-law, Correne Stark and Howardyne Stark.

Survivors include his wife, Ardis of Atwood; his son, Sgt. Ronald D. Stark II and wife, Katie Stark of Ft. Stewart, Ga.; daughter, Ronda and husband, John Helms of Gibbon; brothers, James and wife, Allene Stark of Alachua, Fla., Larry Stark of Rigby, Idaho, Wayne Stark and wife, Joyce of Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ess of Seattle, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Services are Thursday, 10 a.m., at the Christian Church Disciples of Christ of Atwood with the Rev. James Larson officiating. Interment will be in Atwood Fairview Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion, Sam Hubbard Post No. 46 of Atwood.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home of Atwood.

Memorials can be given to the Hitchcock County Museum.
