Rough riders

Wade Sundell of Boxholm, Iowa, takes a flying leap off the back of a one-ton bull, during the finals of the Professional Roughtstock Rodeo Tour Saturday night at the Kiplinger Arena in McCook. Bull fighters Rob Miles of Lincoln (left) and Lance Keim of Elm Creek (partially hidden behind Sundell) are johnny-on-the-spot to distract the bull after Sundell comes down. With a two-ride score of 158 points, Sundell was named the 2003 finals champion. Stella Larreau of Rodeo Rose Productions of Hershey, stock contractor for the rodeo, said rodeo sponsors were pleased with attendance, and with the one-year-old Kiplinger Arena. "That's a really nice facility," she said. Roughtstock Tour officials named the Red Willow Rodeo Club, which sponsored the finals in McCook, the "Rodeo Committee of the Year."
