Bison spikers fall to So. Valley, Gothenburg

GOTHENBURG -- The McCook High School volleyball team extended Gothenburg and Southern Valley to three games before dropping both matches Thursday at the Gothenburg Quadrangular.

The Bison (4-17) lost to the Gothenburg Swedes 10-15, 15-4, 15-6 and the Southern Valley Eagles 15-6, 6-15, 15-10.

Southern Valley (6-9) lost to Lexington 15-6, 15-7.

Jessica Carfield had 4 ace serves in the two matches. Courtney Moore had 10 kills against Southern Valley and 7 kills and 10 digs against Gothenburg.

Ashley Hancock had 6 kills against Southern Valley. Jennifer Chmiel had 6 kills and 21 digs against Southern Valley and 2 ace serves and 23 digs against Gothenburg.

Denae Owens had 26 digs in the two matches and 2 ace serves against Gothenburg.

Sara Cappel had 16 digs against Southern Valley and 4 ace serves and 5 kills against Gothenburg.

Allyx Shields had 8 kills in the Gothenburg match.

"At least we battled to get into three games (in each match)," said McCook volleyball coach Krystal Weber.

"We're getting much better on defense. We're a really scrappy team. We have some very bright spots and moments."

Southern Valley's Sam Luther had 22 set assists against the Bison. Jenee Perkins had 21 digs and Janae Perkins 20.

Raquel Perkins led the Eagles with 7 kills, followed by Janae Perkins with 6 and Macenzie Quinn and Megan Becker 5 each.

Luther had 8 set assists and 3 ace serves against Lexington. Jenee Perkins had 6 digs and Janae Perkins 5.

The Bison host North Platte next Thursday.
