LINCOLN -- McCook finished 3-0 in softball pool play to take home the first place trophy in the Lincoln Southeast Tournament on Saturday.

"Our kids played well against good competition," Bison Coach Dale Lortz said.

"Lisa (Friehe) threw very well and we had timely hits throughout the tournament," he said. "We are getting more offense out of more players."

McCook's defense was also excellent, he said. A double-play in the Waverly game early turned the ballgame, and when there was no score, with a runner on third and one out -- the batter bunted to first baseman Kim Serbousek, who went to second baseman Sunee Haney, covering first, who in turn went home to Kayla Wilson, to cut the runner down.

"Plays like that win games," Lortz said.

McCook, now 22-1, moves on to Lexington on Tuesday, The junior varsity plays at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.
