William Myatt Volentine

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- William Myatt Volentine was born Feb. 20, 1946, in McCook to Myatt Wesley and Mary Genevieve (Bell) Volentine. He passed away Oct. 21, 2002, at his home in Santa Barbara, Calif. On Nov. 8, 1970, he married Mary Patricia Coburn in Santa Barbara.

He attended McCook schools in his earlier years and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a rancher in Chadron until moving to Alturas, Calif., where he owned and operated a cattle ranch until selling out and moving to Santa Barbara.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Patricia; a son, Myatt Wesley Volentine of Santa Barbara; a daughter, Eirrena and husband, Barry Carnes of Camarillo, Calif.; grandchildren, Brianna and Beathney Carnes of Camarillo; a sister, Diane K. (Volentine) Hayes of Santa Barbara; niece, Shannon and husband, Elliott Ugarte and their children Ashley and Alisha of Escondido, Calif.; nephew, Shawn Hayes and wife, Marie and their children Kaila and Chance of Temecula, Calif.; step-niece, Jessica Reardon; step-nephew, Michael Rearson of Ventura, Calif.; nephew David Popenhagen and wife, Leta and their children, Renae Popenhagen and Robin and husband, Mike Echard and their daughter, Kayle Echard; niece Nancy Popenhagen of Loveland, Colo.; and his in-laws, Mike and Mary Coburn of Rocklin, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Royce and husband, Lyle Popenhagen of Loveland.

A memorial service is scheduled for Oct. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m., at All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church in Montecito, Calif.
