HAYS, Kan. -- Darrel L. Purvis, 71, died Saturday (April 5, 2003) at his home in Hays, Kan.

He was born April 4, 1932, at Atwood, to Ray and Naida (Koskie) Purvis. He attended elementary school in Northwest Kansas and graduated from Bird City High School. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, he attended Fort Hays State University in Hays.

On Jan. 27, 1957, he married Shirley Lueschen at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Francis. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation and retired in 1992.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays since 1957. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; sons, Mark Purvis and wife, Karen of Hays and David Purvis and wife, Victoria of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Yvonne Underwood of McCook and Raoma and husband, Mux Johnson of Bird City; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays, with the Rev. John Binder officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mount Allen Cemetery at Hays.

A memorial has been established with the Trinity Lutheran Church in his name and memory.
