Bigger picture

Monday, April 7, 2003

Dear Editor,

I was amused to see a complaint about the races at the Red Willow County Fairgrounds even before the first race.

I have lived directly across the street since 1963 and have always enjoyed seeing the facilities being used and enjoyed by so many people from McCook AND other communities.

I was one of the crazies enduring the cold Friday evening along with many other fans. Sitting in front of our group were approximately 30 young teens, probably between the ages of 13-16 who also enjoyed not only the races but socializing with each other.

This was a group of young people that every parent could be proud of. I just wondered where they would have been if they hadn't been at the races?

Perhaps if the people, who send the unsigned (Speak Outs) to the Gazette, would look beyond themselves and see what is going on around them in our fair community they would adapt to an occasional inconvenience and see the bigger picture of living in this great place.

By the way, before I started attending the races, I just closed my door and turned the TV up a little louder to compensate for the noise.

Kindest regards,

Marilyn Cuellar

McCook
