June nuptials unite couple

Brenda and Matthew Manteufel

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Brenda Kay Burkey and Matthew Thomas Manteufel were united in marriage June 1, 2002, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, Kan., with the Rev. Thomas Manteufel, father of the bridegroom, officiating. The Rev. Dan Rayer, cousin of the bride, served as the lector.

Parents of the couple are Jon and Pat Burkey of McCook and Thomas and Berdeen Manteufel of St. Louis, Mo.

Grandparents of the bride are Leo and Nellie McConville of McCook.

Lisa Eustace, sister of the bride, served as the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Staci Keough, Staci Soderlin, Nancy Salsman, Amy Gustad and Cheryl Burkey, sister-in-law of the bride. Anne McCarville and Lanette Kinne, cousins of the bride, served as the bride's personal attendants.

Manuel Haley served as the best man. Bridegroomsmen were Adam Frillman, Aaron Kelne, Lyle Bauck, cousin of the bridegroom, David Burkey, brother of the bride, and Tracy Eustace, brother-in-law of the bride.

Elaine Burkey, niece of the bride, served as the flower girl.

The candlelighters were Janet Rayer and Marla Hoelscher, cousins of the bride. Ushers were Aaron Bauck, cousin of the bridegroom, Jim Olley and Colin Shanahan.

The matron of honor and the best man were the soloists.

The reception was at Holiday Inn in Overland Park. David and Emma Jean Colling and Melvin and Carol Bauck, aunts and uncles of the couple, served as the host couples for the reception.

Guestbook attendants were Lois Kinne and Jane Rayer, aunts of the bride.

The couple honeymooned in Kauai, Hawaii.

The bride is a 1998 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She is employed as a financial analyst at State Street Bank in Kansas City, Mo. The bridegroom is a 1996 graduate of the University of Iowa. He is employed as an account manager at State Street Bank in Kansas City.

The couple is making their home in Prairie Village, Kan.
