Garage sale to benefit upcoming Join Hands Day

Thursday, June 6, 2002

The Nelson Institute, in conjunction with the Freedom 50 Club of McCook National Bank and the Live Y'ers of the YMCA, are planning a benefit garage sale on Saturday, June 15 in coordination with the third annual Join Hands Day.

Connecting young people and adults in neighborhood volunteering is the unique focus on Join Hands Day, a day designed to create cross-generational friendships that help break down age barriers.

Those interested in donating items to sell may drop them off at McCook Community College in Room 205 of McMillen Building or call to have them picked up at 345-6303 extension 286 or 234. You may also call Darlene Nothnagel of McCook Bank at 345-4240 or Rose Routier of YMCA Live Y'ers at 345-6228.

McCook joins several communities including Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, Grand Island, Brainard, Weston and David City in developing projects that benefit non-profit organizations.

Some of the service projects include community and roadside cleanup, beautification projects, and feeding the homeless.

Join Hands Day is sponsored by America's Fraternal Benefit Societies, the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network.
