Pump failure closes pool

Friday, June 21, 2002

The McCook municipal swimming pool will be closed until further notice because of an equipment failure, according to city officials.

A pump which circulates chlorinated water must be replaced, according to Steve Stewart, public works superintendent for McCook.

He said the city had located the special type of pump in Texas and California, and someone from the city may have to pick up the equipment if quick shipment cannot be arranged. Without the circulation the pump provides, the water quickly becomes cloudy, Stewart said. It is illegal to open the pool without the pump in operation, he said.

The pool probably will be closed for three or four days, he said.

As a result, the Southwest Nebraska Swim League meet, scheduled for the city pool this weekend, has been moved to the Ed Thomas YMCA.
