Kane receives positive response

Wednesday, April 9, 2003

It seems when the name Christine Kane is brought up in the folk music world, there is a huge, positive response.

She has been labeled as "seasoned," "earthy," "real" and "sassy," and is honored as one of the best performers in the coffeehouse circuit.

Her songs are true and often cause her listeners to empathize with the situations and the people she writes about.

Kane is a songwriter that has lived over 10 years in North Carolina, but travels across the U.S. playing in cafes and coffeshops and at various charity concerts and festivals.

She has released four CDs including her latest "Rain & Mud & Wild & Green." Her songs have also been included on many compilation discs. She has toured with artists like The Beach Boys, Greg Brown, Nanci Griffith and Los Lobos.

Her sound is deep and is radiated through a sultry alto voice. The music is mellow, but relaxes listeners into deep philosophical thoughts about love, nature and overall joy. Even the saucy song "(No Such Thing as) Girls Like That" (on Rain & Mud &...) makes the listeners plunge into euphoric thoughts that help illustrate the song.

She is regularly invited to appear at conferences where she lends her expertise in writing.

Kane started her love for music at a young age, but was a student at Boston College majoring in theology and communication with plans for a journalistic career. She started her music career when a friend encouraged her into performing her original music at open-mic nights in Asheville, N.C., the place she calls home. Through open-mic nights, coffeehouses and festivals, her music career has soared.

He first CD, "This Time Last Year," was recorded in a friends basement and her song "Off The Ground" on that record was used in a compilation record titled Women's Work.

Her second CD, "A Thousand Girls," was chosen by Apple Computers as the CD that would demonstrate their QuickTime software at expos and on their web site.

With the growing popularity of live shows, Kane release her third album "Live," that was recorded at The Down Home, a club in the Southeast.

Rain & Mud & Wild & Green has been said to be her best so far.

Kane will be appearing at The Bieroc Cafe, 312 Norris Avenue, on April 11, 7:30 p.m. The show is sold out, but names and phone numbers are being put on a list, in the case that previously purchased tickets become free. Kane is coming to the Bieroc as part of the many shows that Matt Sehnert (owner of the Bieroc) and Dale Dueland, both of McCook, coordinate and bring to the Southwest Nebraska area. Information about the shows is sent out via e-mail. Those who wish to be on the e-mail list can send an e-mail to: sehnert@swnebr.net for more information.
