Deputies break up beer party Friday

Monday, April 14, 2003

INDIANOLA -- Red Willow County deputies wrote about 15 citations for minor in possession and trespassing late Friday night as they broke up a teen beer party in a canyon southwest of Indianola.

Deputy Tom Johnson said this morning a female "gate keeper" told officers she had permission to be in the canyon, but bolted from officers as she was leading them to the scene. Johnson said all but two of the 25-30 teenagers scattered into the trees as he and fellow deputy Joe Koetter walked into the canyon.

Johnson said a concerned neighbor had called law officers, who found eight or nine vehicles, an illegal bonfire, food enough to feed about 50-60 and a keg of beer.

Johnson said charges of procuring alcohol for minors are pending.

Johnson said officers called parents, who were asked to pick up their children.
