Amid the road construction taking place in Downtown McCook, a less noticeable but far-reaching construction project is also under way. Pinpoint Communications, with the support of the city of McCook and the Nebraska Public Power District, is constructing a new, copper aerial cable connection. The purpose of the additional cable is to interconnect the Pinpoint Central Office in McCook to the existing telephone infrastructure, allowing the continued expansion of Pinpoint's local phone service offerings in McCook. Additional services will include a new 344 telephone exchange and the ability to offer DSL Service in McCook. Digital Subscriber Line technology, known as "DSL," enables the transmission of high-bandwidth information to homes and businesses over ordinary copper telephone lines. A DSL line can carry both data and voice signals -- even while the data portion is continuously connected.
