Area churches plan Easter activities

The annual Stations of the Cross procession is only one of many activities commemorating Holy Week in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas.

The procession will leave St. Alban's Episcopal Church, West First and F Streets, at 11:30 a.m. Friday, as part of the Community Lenten Service.

The procession will make stops at various stations of the cross, defined by Scripture or by tradition, through the downtown area of McCook, arriving at First Congregational Church, 212 East E Street, at 12:05 p.m., in time for the final Community Lenten service.

That service will include a reading of "The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ According to St. John."

Also at St. Alban's, today, at 6 p.m., the Solemn Eucharist will be offered with foot washing and the stripping of the altar. From 7 p.m.-midnight, the Gethsemane Watch will be conducted in the Chapel.

The Liturgy of Good Friday will be presented Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday, the Liturgy of Holy Saturday is at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel.

On Easter Sunday, St. Alban's will offer Holy Eucharist at 8:30 and 10 a.m.; along with a time of fellowship and an Easter Egg hunt at 11:15 a.m.

First Congregational Church will conduct a Maundy Thursday Communion Service at 7 p.m. today and will commemorate the Resurrection with a Communion service Sunday at 8:30 a.m., followed by breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and regular Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial United Methodist Church, 105 East E Street, will present a special Maundy Thursday observance today at 7:30 p.m., with a collection of readings, songs, meditation and Communion. The fellowship will also have a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

A sunrise service is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. Sunday at MUMC, with worship services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. An Easter supper and worship service also is planned Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 312 Seminole, is conducting a Maundy Thursday observance at 7 p.m., including Holy Communion, and a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. Easter services will be Sunday at 8 and 10:30 a.m.; Easter breakfast will be served at 9 a.m.

Peace Lutheran Church, 411 East Sixth, also will have a Maundy Thursday service with the Lord's Supper today at 7 p.m., and on Good Friday, will conduct a Tenabrae service of music and narration at 7:30 p.m. The schedule for Resurrection Sunday includes a Sunrise Service at 7 a.m.; a youth sponsored Easter breakfast at 8 a.m.; Christian education and an Easter egg hunt are set for 9:15 a.m.; and Easter Festival services are at 10:30 a.m.

McCook Christian Church, 329 N. Cherokee is partnering with the Indianola Christian Church (formerly the Indianola Church of Christ) for Good Friday Services in Indianola at 7:30 p.m.

McCook Christian youth will lead a Sunrise Service Sunday at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast at 8:15 a.m. and Sunday School for all ages at 9 a.m.

The congregation at McCook Christian is sponsoring a community Easter Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the McCook High School Auditorium, featuring special music, congregational singing and a sermon.

First Baptist Church, 1010 E. Sixth in McCook, will conduct Sunrise Services at 7 a.m., with special music and an Easter message. This will be followed by a breakfast of hot cross buns, fresh fruit and beverages at about 8 a.m. The Sunday School opening will be at 9:45 a.m., Sunday School at 10 a.m., and the choir at First Baptist Church, with accompaniment by the Children's Bell Choir, will present an Easter Cantata at 11 a.m.

First Church of the Nazarene, 1204 West J Street, will conduct a sunrise service on the church lawn at 8 a.m. The regular Sunday worship, 10:45 a.m., will include an offering by the choir of a medley of songs celebrating the resurrection of Christ.

The McCook Evangelical Free Church, 602 East 14th, will conduct a Good Friday service, including Communion at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday services will be at 8:30 and 11 a.m., with the lesson titled "Jesus Christ defeated..." A time of fellowship and testimony will be conducted during adult Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., with participants answering the question, "How do you know your God is real?"

The McCook Church of Christ, 711 East G, will host an Easter Egg hunt immediately following regular services.

Indianola

The Indianola Christian Church will partner with the United Methodist Church Sunday for a Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. at the Methodist church. Sunday School at Indianola Christian Church will be at 9 a.m., with worship set for 10 a.m.

Curtis

Maundy Thursday services will be conducted at the Curtis United Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m. The fellowship will also offer Good Friday services at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Sunrise Services Sunday at 7 a.m.

Max

Sunrise services will begin at 5:45 a.m. MDT Sunday at the Max United Methodist Church, continuing a 65-year tradition. A time of fellowship will follow.

Maywood

Good Friday services are set for 7:30 p.m., at the Maywood Christian Church, 202 South Plum, with sunrise services set for 7 a.m. Sunday morning at the ballpark in Maywood. An Easter breakfast will follow at the church, followed by Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m.
