Mike and Merriul Thomas (above) of McCook swing dance to "In the Mood," one of the most popular swing dance songs of the Big Band era, played by the Freedom Swings Big Band at the first concert in the 2003 Hot Summer Nights concert series. Walt Sehnert (right photo) and Angie Reiners sing "Chattanooga Choo Choo" to an estimated crowd of 700 people. Before the show, participants raised $795 from the bratwurst, hotdog and hamburger barbecue, with all the proceeds going to Cedar Youth Services in McCook. The Freedom Swings Band consists of 21 area musicians playing and singing big band and jazz music. The next free Hot Summer Nights concert is June 26 and features Jalan Crossland. The concerts are sponsored by McCook National Bank and the McCook Area Chamber of Commerce.
