Flamingos flock for Relay for Life

Wednesday, July 16, 2003

A flock of unsightly flamingos landed on Highland Park's front lawn this week to help raise funds for the Southwest Nebraska American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. Highland Park residents, along with Brenda McGuire, Highland Park director (center back) are shown here with Relay committee members. The flamingos carry a sign that says: "This flock of flamingos has been placed in your yard courtesy of the Relay For Life committee or one of your friends. If you would like them to fly away, you need to do these three things: 1. Call 345-3389 and leave a message 2. If you desire, make a donation to the American Cancer Society, 3. And finally, give us an address to take the birds." The flock will travel throughout McCook, landing in a variety of places, until the Relay event on Friday, August 8 at 7 p.m. in Norris Park. For more information about the Relay, call Barb Bortner or Dixie Bethell at 308-345-2650, or visit the Relay Website at www.chmccook.org.
