Bluegrass on the playground

Tuesday, July 29, 2003

Paige Stute (left) and Alicia Crouse of Haigler stand before the new playground equipment in Haigler's city park. The girls spearheaded the community's almost year-long effort to replace outdated playground equipment. The final fund-raising event will be "Bluegrass Haigler Style" in the park on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 4 p.m. MT. The festival will feature The James King Band, the chart-topping, award-winning bluegrass band responsible for the song, "Thirty Years of Farming," and the bluegrass album of the year. "Big Al" Weekly, the host of "Big Al's Bluegrass Show" on KRVN Radio out of Lexington, and "The Ackermans," a family band from Pueblo West, Colo., will also appear in the park. Performers plan a "jam session," from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. John McArthur of JR's Airstream will provide concessions. Organizers encourage spectators to bring their lawnchairs. Admission will be free-will donations, all of which will go into the playground equipment fund.
