School district seeks variance for new bus barn

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook Board of Zoning Adjustment will coordinate a public hearing, Monday evening, to discuss a request from McCook Public Schools for a variance from the yard setback requirements. The school district is seeking the variance to allow for the construction of a 88' by 52' metal building at 404 W. Seventh Street, the former National Guard Armory location.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at council chambers in the McCook Municipal Facility.

According to the meeting agenda the new structure would be located to the west of the existing building, embedded in a hill and facing to the south. The variance is needed because the new building's northwest corner would extend to the property line, 11 feet 9 inches from the curb, and would not meet the zoning requirement of having a side yard of not less than 10 feet.

The structure is intended to be utilized to store school buses.

Following the public hearing the board of zoning adjustment will consider approval or denial of the request.
