Longnecker Jewelry uses Facebook to give away $1,650

McCOOK, Nebraska -- This Husker football season, Longnecker Jewelry decided they wanted to have a little fun with their friends on Facebook. The business decided to have a contest; Facebook friends entered their prediction of what the final score would be for the football game each week. The closest guess was the winner and if there was a tie, names were drawn from a hat or a coin was flipped. For 10 Husker football games, Longnecker Jewelry gave away a total of $1,648 in prizes.

Longnecker's also worked with local businesses for their "Husker Game Day Challenge" Facebook promotion, including The Sports Shoppe, Weskamp Floral & Gifts and Retro Planet, all on Norris Avenue in McCook.

"We wanted to have something fun and interactive for our friends on Facebook and we wanted to remind people that we have great local businesses, especially with the holidays coming up." said Janelle Williams, operations manager at Longnecker Jewelry.

Bill Longnecker, owner of Longnecker Jewelry added, "We definitely didn't expect the response we received from the contests; some days we would get over 100 score predictions. It was amazing."

Winners included Bill Marks of Kansas, Cheryl Collins of Nebraska, Marilyn Roth of Nebraska, Deb Reitz of Nebraska, Paul Hernandez of Nebraska, Angie Martus of Nebraska, Morgan Hackenkamp of Nebraska, Richard Couts of Nebraska, Jim Lipscomb of Indiana and Deanna Snyder of Nebraska.

The business had a Halloween costume photo contest and they're planning on doing a similar contest for Christmas.
