An invitation to an auction

Thursday, December 6, 2012

Melvin Thielbar, Worthy Conductor of Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2769 of McCook, Nebraska, invites the public to the Eagles' annual fund-raising charity auction Sunday, at the Eagles Club at 805 East B. The meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed "at 6:30 p.m., sharp," Mel says, by the auction conducted by McCook auctioneer Dennis Youngs. Melvin has visited just more than 140 McCook and area merchants who have donated merchandise for the auction, all the proceeds of which are divided among the Eagles' favorite charities. Mel has coordinated the auction for 10 to 12 years, he said. "I believe in charity, and the club believes in charity. The Eagles' motto is 'People helping people'," Mel said. "That's why we do this." Pam Messinger, Mel's daughter, invites the public to supper and auction. "Bring your wife, your husband, your significant other ... and your check book and your charitable attitude," she smiled.
