Red Willow County receives $105,950 grant

LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Red Willow County, Nebraska, received a $105,950 grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, which distributed $1.7 million in grants Monday for waste reduction and recycling projects throughout Nebraska.

NDEQ Director Mike Linder said that funds for the state's Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grant Program are generated by a fee on solid waste disposed of in landfills (disposal fee), an annual retail business sales fee (business fee), and a fee assessed on the sale of new tires for motor vehicles (tire fee).

Red Willow County's household hazardous waste collection program conducts 40 household hazardous waste collection events throughout Nebraska, collecting household hazardous waste, household and garden chemicals, used motor oil, computers, paint, batteries and fluorescent bulbs.

Red Willow County residents can take their household waste items to the program's building located at the corner of South and Railroad streets in McCook. It's open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
