Ag-related seminar presented by area student

HAYS, Kan. -- As part of the senior-level class requirements, Fort Hays State University agriculture students will present seminars in Albertson Hall, room 235, through Nov. 5.

The student seminars, which began Sept. 24, will cover a variety of topics including crops, agricultural economy, diseases affecting farmers and ranchers, and agriculture controversies.

The presentations will be given to agriculture students as well as anyone else interested in attending.

On Sept. 24, Clint Holland, La Cygne senior, presented "Estrus Synchronization in Cattle." "Bovine Respiratory Disease" was presented by Jacob Miller, Culbertson, Neb., senior.

Remaining presentations:

Oct. 1, 3:30 p.m.: Chance Hobrock, St. Francis senior, will present "Spider Mite Control: Economical Benefits for Both the Farmer and Rancher." The 4:30 seminar will be "Picking the Right Heifer Replacements," by Kaid Baumann, Kensington senior.

Oct. 8, 3:30 p.m.: Ashley Montgomery, Hays senior, will present "The NRCS and How it Can Help Producers." Jerdan Schweizer, Langdon senior, will present "The Agricultural Economy: The Role of the Market, Policies and Labor" at 4:30 p.m.

Oct. 15, 3:30 p.m.: Shaun Ohlde, Palmer senior, will present "Certified Wheat." Ryan Hoffman, Hoisington senior, will present "Cover Crops: Benefits in Farming and Ranching" at 4:30 p.m.

Oct. 22, 3:30 p.m.: Candice Wagstrom, North Platte, Neb., senior, will present "Piedmontese Cattle: Double Muscled--Better or Worse?" Katelyn Keller, Ellis senior, "Natural Beef Programs in the Feedlot Sector" at 4:30 p.m.

Nov. 5, 3:30 p.m.: Joseph Penning, Atchison senior, will present "The Controversy Over Finely Textured Beef." The 4:30 p.m. seminar will be "Importance of Food Safety, Quality and Legality in the Meat Packing Industry," by Cody Simmons, Rose Hill senior.
