Archie B. 'Burdette' Malleck

Aug. 14, 1940-June 15, 2012

KILLEEN, Texas -- Archie B. "Burdette" Malleck, 71, died June 15, 2012, in a Temple hospital.

He was born Aug. 14, 1940, at Imperial, Nebraska, to Charles L. and Lorene Agnes (Weskamp) Malleck.

He attended McCook Community College and Idaho State University, where he played football.

On Sept. 13, 1968, he married In Suk Hwang in Seoul, South Korea.

He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He spent 26 months in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star, an Army Commendation Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, and numerous other service awards.

The family made their home in Killeen, where he worked as a postal clerk following his retirement from the army.

He was a member of the St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights, Texas; a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus; and a founding member of the Harker Heights 9930 Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Darrel and Robert Malleck.

Survivors include his wife, In Suk; a daughter, Toni and husband, Michael Pelayo of Sachse, Texas; three brothers, Kenneth and wife, Nita Malleck and Eugene "Gene" and wife, Marjorie Malleck, all of McCook and Loyce and wife, Marilyn Malleck of Denver, Colorado; and two granddaughters.

Services were June 19, at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard O'Rourke officiating. Burial with full military honors followed at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
